BounceBack is a ribose supplement containing 120 tablets with 1000 mg of ribose made by Bioenergy, Inc.

Q.     What is ribose and where does the body use it?

A.     Ribose is a simple five-carbon sugar (pentose). It occurs naturally and is produced from glucose by the mechanisms built into the cell. Ribose is then used by the body in several ways. The one most easily recognized is in the backbone for DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) and RNA (ribonucleic acid). It is ribose or a slight modification of ribose that forms the long chains that hold the genetic codes in place and in order. The less easily recognized way is as a building block of ATP.

Q.     What is ATP?

A.     ATP is the abbreviation for adenosine tri-phosphate. It is the vehicle that carries energy around for the cell to use in its daily tasks and in the repair of damage. Basically, if the cell needs energy to do anything, it gets it from ATP. A thorough understanding of how ATP works resulted in the 1997 Nobel Prize being given to Walker, Boyer and Skou. If you really wanted to understand in detail what is going on, good luck.

Q.     What role does ribose play in ATP?

A.     Ribose is one of the blocks that the body puts together to form ATP. If you are interested in the chemical structure, the following diagram shows the chemical structure or ATP. Adenine is red, ribose is magenta and the three phosphates are blue.

Q.     If the cell can make its own ribose, why take a supplement?

A.     The key is to realize that the network of reactions in the ATP cycle is fragile. When the body experiences unexpected levels of exertion, stress, or muscle damage, the cells routine metabolism is disrupted and the ATP cycle is negatively affected. Key components needed to rebuild the cycle are lost through the cell wall and must be resupplied using the cells resources. One of these is ribose. By taking ribose as a supplement, you relieve the cells of this task and allow them to quickly focus their full potential on healing.

Q.     When would be good times to take ribose?

A.     Ribose would be a good addition when the body is recovering from serious physical stresses. Athletes already know about the improvement in recovery time from serious exertion and the effects it has on building up strength. People dealing with heart problems involving ischemia and the associated angina pain have experienced a faster recovery of ATP levels as a result of the addition of ribose, and they report the lessening of discomfort. Both of these topics are thoroughly covered at ribose.com, the website run by Bioenergy.

Q.     What if I’m not an athlete or have heart problems, should I still consider ribose?

A.     Absolutely, for those of us that are not athletes and are going about our everyday lives, ribose supplements should be considered. If you occasionally overexert say while doing yard work or having fun on the weekends, you know there will be a price to pay with sore muscles. The older we get, the less it takes to get sore and longer it takes for the misery to pass. Taking ribose prior to, during and after overexertion will reduce the intensity of the discomfort as well as shorten the recovery time.

Q.     Does it fit in with the immune system’s needs and beta 1,3-D glucan?

A.     The answer is yes. If you are dealing with an immune system under stress and want to give it the maximum punch for recovery, it needs all the energy it can muster. Supplemental ribose assures you that the ATP cycle is at full force. That is why we have the Recovery Pack containing a months supply of both ribose and beta 1,3-D glucan. It combines the positive potential of both of these glyconutrients by activating the immune system with beta glucan while assuring that the ATP cycle has enough ribose available to be at its best. The Recovery Pack should be considered for post surgery recovery and for tolerating and recovering from of chemotherapy and radiation treatments.

Q.     How much ribose should I take?

A.     Taking 2 grams twice a day has been shown to reduce discomfort from muscle pain and to provide noticeable improvement in angina pain. Some people take more because they experience additional benefit from the higher usage.

Q.     Why ribose from Bioenergy?

A.     We worked with Bioenergy Inc. on a consulting basis from 1998 to 2000 to assist in the development of the processing skills for ribose production. They do a good job and we know it.
